About Us
Our farm dates four generations back. When Michael Steiakakis our ancestor started the farm he was cultivating grapes in order to produce raisins. Then raisins were the gold of Crete and were sold overseas at a high price.
Our family always focused on high quality high prices products that would allow to maintain quality and never make compromises on quality to be price-competitive.
Our great grandfather George Stereos foresaw the drop in grapes prices and the transition of the local cultivations and started some years after the end of World War 2 to cultivate olive trees and produce high quality olive oil. Keeping all production cycle local, our family was supporting local community and local businesses (olive oil mills, local workers etc). After a transitional period we started reinvesting in our land and examining new cultivations and methods.
So in recent years after detailed study of local soil composition, climate conditions and business models we started our Dragon Fruit farm.
Recently the grandson of G. Stereos Dr. Alex-George Alexakis having origin from two major and historical cretan families decided to transform the old styled farm to a more modern approach. As Crete is a heavy weight touristic destination and as many visitors have expressed their interest of our products and methods wanting to visit our farm, we decided to open it to the public, offering the possibility to visit the farm, enjoy our products, learn more about the area and having the ability to have a connection with nature. Dr. Alexakis being a historian himself and a strong lover of Crete island is offering our guests a tour in the farm, explaining all our functions, having the ability even to stay for a short period in a glamping area we are developing and enjoy fruits, olive oil, a relaxing dinner within the farm, taste our olive oil, and take a zip (responsibly…) of our Raki.
